BEFORE YOU WASH YOUR HAIR:
Before you get in the shower to wash your hair, spray the conditioner water (70% water and 30% conditioner) from the bottom of your hair shaft and work your way up the shaft (avoiding the root) and begin to brush thoroughly. DO NOT put any conditioner water directly in the root or scalp. Brush and detangle your hair extensions with the Glam brush by taking your hair in small sections at a time. Brush your hair from the ends of the hair and work your way up the hair shaft, detangling as you go.
WASHING YOUR HAIR IN THE SHOWER:
Always wash your hair extensions in the shower and not in a tub or sink. Always wash your hair with your head back and not tilted forward. Do not wash your hair in the sink or put your head upside down when it is wet.
It is recommended that you wash your hair every day, every other day, or at least every third day. Or if your hair is very dry, once a week.
Rinse your hair thoroughly by flood rinsing it with water until it is fully saturated. Add shampoo to your head at the top, and being to work up a good lather. Never wash your hair in a vigorous circular motion where you have the extensions. Instead, use this technique:
Start washing your hair like normal in the free zone section (the section free from extensions). When you come across the first row at the top of your head, wash in small circular motions all around the extensions. Divide the first row from the second row and continue to wash your scalp in small but firm circular motions. Take your time being thorough and continue this throughout your entire head. To wash your hair extensions, take the shampoo from the bottom of the hair shaft up to the root keeping hair in the same direction - DOWN. You are allowed to put shampoo in the root area. However, do not perform careless scrubbing. Pay attention to cleansing the scalp especially in the seal area. It is important to cleanse properly without disrupting the flow of the extensions. Continue this action throughout your entire scalp taking your time, and being thorough washing in between every single extension.
Do not put your hair up in a towel after you have washed it. Simply, put the towel on your shoulders and let your hair drip dry, or you may use a towel to gently blot dry your hair. Do not use a towel to rub your hair vigorously to dry.
The recommended shampoo for your hair extensions is Goldwell Ultra Silk Therapy Shampoo or Phyto Organics, or any type of Sulfate Free Shampoo.
CONDITIONING:
There are 3 types of conditioning that will be required of you.
Pre-Shampooing Leave-In Detangler or Conditioner. Please refer to the DETANGLING section of this agreement.
Conditioning while in the Shower. After you have completed shampooing your hair and properly flood rinsing, now you are ready to condition it. Use Goldwell Ultra Silk Therapy Daily Conditioner while in the shower by applying from the ends of the hair to the root. Be careful that you do not saturate your seals or connectors with conditioner. However, you must condition your own hair. You may use a wide tooth comb or a paddle to further detangle. Flood rinse for 1-2 minutes over the seals and very thoroughly. Post Shower Conditioning. After you have washed and conditioned your hair, and after towel blotting, then you are now ready to apply a small amount of Goldwell Silk Therapy Leave-In Treatment from your ends to the mid-shaft (or after the seal), avoiding the seal completely. Brush through the leave-in conditioner.
BRUSHING:
Do not pull excessively on your hair extensions when brushing. If you pull excessively, you may risk pulling out your own hair. Please use caution during any brushing event.
Take your hair in small sections and brush from the ends up to the root. Take your time and brush gently. Do not just attack your hair and start brushing all of your hair without holding it. Hold your hair at the root area and then do a full brush stroke. (See the Detangling section for more details). Use your new Glam brush to brush your extensions. Certain brushes may cause severe breakage and pulling out of your new hair extensions, and possibly your own natural hair.
COMBING
Never comb your hair with a fine-toothed comb. Use only a large toothed comb in the shower with conditioner or after the shower with leave in conditioner. Only use a comb when your hair is wet.
COLORING:
Do not color or tint your new hair extensions. If you decide to change your hair color during the course of your hair extensions wear, then you will subsequently experience patches of discoloration once you remove your extensions.
Coloring your re-growth area. You are allowed to perform touch up coloring during your hair extension wear. If a person other than a Glam Hair Extensions stylist performs such re-growth color, then please give them a copy of these instructions to follow. Do not attempt to color your hair without a professional.
CUTTING:
Do not attempt to cut your hair extensions by yourself. If you need a haircut, simply call the salon to set an appointment. If you are unable to get to the salon and have found a professional to cut your hair, then make sure that they do not blunt cut. Use a slithering or razor technique. Point cutting is also acceptable.STYLING:In order to style your hair, you may use any or all of the following:Gel leave-in conditioner (avoid seals) detangling solution (avoid seals) hair spray or mousse gel silicon (avoid seals)silk products (avoid seals)blow dryer, flat iron (avoid seals)hot curling iron (avoid seals)hot rollers; and cold rollers. You may blow dry your hair on high, medium or low heat making sure that you dry the seals completely, even if you let the rest of your hair air dry. Do not leave your seals in a constant, wet state for longer than 2 hours per day.You may use a flat iron on your hair no more than 3 times per week. You may use a curling iron on your hair no more than 3 times per week. The suggested iron for ironing is the professional Baby Bliss 1 inch Flat Iron.SLEEPING:Sleep with your hair in a low or high ponytail. If you sleep with your hair down, then you risk knotting, matting and tangling your extensions. You can also put your hair up in a bun or, put your hair in a large braid or pig tail braids. Never sleep with your hair wet.
SEPARATING EXTENSIONS DAILY (for strand-by-strand only):It is extremely important to remember to separate your extensions daily. Do not attempt to separate your extensions when your hair is wet, only when it is completely dry. You must take two individual extensions and grab them at the seal (or bond or piece or connection). If they are stuck together, then pull them apart very carefully. You will hear a “velcro” sound when the two separate from each other. Separate the extension all the way to the scalp, if possible. If you feel pain when pulling them apart, then stop. We will take care of it on your next appointment.
RECOMMENDED PRODUCTS:
Pureology Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner, Goldwell Leave In Silk Therapy and Alfa Parf Semi di Lino Finishing Spray.
SHEDDING (when you lose one hair at a time): There are two types of shedding to consider when wearing hair extensions:The shedding of your own hair. Shedding is a naturally occurring process, which varies from person to person. The average person sheds approximately 50 to 150 hairs per day. You will still experience natural shedding of your own hair while wearing the hair extensions. Do not misinterpret this natural shedding as hair breakage or pulling. When your natural hair sheds, the root is released and is held by the seal. It will appear that your hair is coming out by the root, but that is NOT the case. Your hair is naturally shedding and releasing at the root. That is perfectly normal and to be expected. During the maintenance, we will replace unbalanced extensions and you will see the natural shedding released once the seal is removed. The natural shedding is very easy to identify because it has a small white root attached to the top. Hair extensions do not cause your hair to shed more than normal. The shedding of the Hair Extensions. It is normal for you to experience mild to moderate shedding of the hair extensions (especially after 3-4 months). If you should experience extreme shedding during the course of your wear, then please consider the products that you are using. Otherwise, contact a Glam representative to perform a determination test as to what might be causing the shedding. Remember that a number of factors are associated with shedding, including, but not limited to, certain medications, sebum types, activity levels, outside sources (ocean, pool, products) all of which play a role.
MAINTENANCE: In order to maintain the integrity of your natural hair, a maintenance regimen is required. Each method has its own respective Care Sheet and maintenance suggestions. However, it will be prudent of you to follow a monthly maintenance program. Neglecting to receive proper maintenance work will result in unstable extensions.
Unstable extensions are susceptible to breakage and/or damage. To ensure that you will not experience breakage or damage, please use the Guide below to follow for proper maintenance schedule:Glam Strands – 3-6 months, Great Lengths – as needed (3-6 months),The Flat Method – 2-4 months, all depending on how quickly your hair grows and how well you are following these home care instructions.
ACTIVITIES:Do not put your hair up when it is wet. Do not put your hair up if you are contemplating sweating or getting wet. Instead, put your hair in a low ponytail. Do not put your hair up before you go into the pool and ocean. The salt water in oceans and chlorine in pools dry out the hair tremendously, especially the hair extensions. Before going in the water, add conditioner to your hair. Avoid submersing your hair extensions in chlorine water if at all possible. If you should, then rinse immediately and condition it. Put your hair up when in a convertible, on a roller coaster, in a speed-boat, when rock climbing, white water rafting, bull riding, motorcycling, skydiving or any other vigorous activity.
